Minns Water Sports in George Town hires out motor boats by the day — command one yourself, or hire a captain who knows where the wind comes from and where the day-boat crowds aren't. Best for the swimming pigs run, the snorkel reefs, or a long lazy lunch at Chat 'n' Chill on Stocking Island.

A proper offshore boat for the deep water.

A larger vessel with cabins, a salon, and a fighting chair. For deep-water fishing — wahoo, mahi, sailfish in season — or a longer cruise to the northern cays with a bed at the end of it. Stocked galley, captain and mate. Arranged on request from a small list of captains.

Twin hulls, a wide trampoline at the bow, a deep cockpit. A captain who knows where the wind comes from each afternoon. Sunset sails are the easiest sell — out at four, anchored off the Tropic of Cancer beach by half-past five, cocktails poured.
